Hi
Guys Just wanted to say your website is too black and white.
luv
wend.

Just
wanted to drop a line to spread the word about a band I saw for the first
time at The Vic in Saltburn last week - The Fibbers.
A five piece band
squeezed onto the small stage, and even had room for some lights and smoke
machine (more about that later!) I got there just as they were ready to
kick off, and was not sure how long I would stay. Most people who go to
see local bands will know what I mean - after two or three songs you
either have to sup up and push off, or get another drink and find a space.
Thankfully, it was the latter.
Lets get one thing
straight though - these lads play their fare share of "cheese"
but when it is played this well, and the audience are enjoying it this
much it does not matter! If you are dead set against hearing a few well
worn classics no matter what, you would not enjoy this regardless.
However, when the mixture is as wide and varied as The Fibbers set a new
rule applies. Me and my mates call it the "bus theory" - If one
comes along you dont want, just hang on a little while, and yours will
turn up. It was like that with The Fibbers. If they were playing something
that was not for you, then you could be sure that it would not be too long
before there was a change of pace, sound, era, or sometimes all three.
The set was well measured
too. The first set started with "Summertime Blues" and wound its
way through "Bad Case Of Loving You", "Valerie" by The
Zutons and included a brilliant verson of a well worn classic - "Knockin
On Heavens Door". The version the band played was based musically on
the Guns n Roses version, but the vocalist managed to inject some
light and shade into it all, finishing of with a couple of great choruses
at the end. By this time the band were really warming up, with both
guitarists beginning to show what they could do.
One critisism I could
give is that the band do not seem to be over confident- the gaps between
songs seemed to be filled with worried glances and muttered comments. No
reason for it though - the crowd was swelling and as the second half began
nobody around us had left, and the place was full, with even the
"lurkers" from around the corner coming to see what was going
on.
The second set was a
stonker! Again, there was some cheese in there, but when the opening of
"Summer of 69" gets such a cheer, who cares? There were people
up dancing almost all the way through the set. The only time the pace
dropped was for a tiptop version of "America" by Raorlight.
The pitch seemed to be right in the singers range, and the rhythm
guitarist played it perfectly. The audience really enjoyed it, especially
the younger ones. I thought it was maybe a bit slow. I am not sure if that
was a decision taken, or just the way The Fibbers play it. There was
tracks from Sterophonics, Bad Company, The Cult and ZZ Top
to follow.
After that the lads
raised the roof, as they had promised. The placed bounced along with
"Mustang Sally", "Rockin in The Freeworld",
"Roadhouse Blues", "500 Miles", "Rock n
Roll" and "Johny B Goode" It is hard to read the song
titles and get too excited I know, but at the time with a few pints with
your mates everybody loved it.
Talking to them
afterwards I know they had a lot more songs from a very broad mix, but
time had beaten them. The crowd wanted more, but because of a curfew an
11pm finish was very strict. The lads looked like they could have rocked
on for hours.
A solid band I want to
see again - The singer is still new to the game, and learning the trade.
With a voice as powerful and versatile as his he will only develop more. I
think he could have engaged the audience a bit more though, and seemed to
run out of power towards the end. The lead guitarist was superb too, solid
all the way through, with some fantastic solos. His hammering during a few
solos had the people near me enthralled, The other guitarist was also
great, and took his share of solos, although stuck to the chords most of
the time. It is nice to see a band that can move the spotlight between two
able musicians. The backbone of the band in the form of the drummer and
bassist were just that. Solid and steady, laying down a framework for the
others to build on. Unsung heroes I always think, but during the band
introductions they got the biggest cheers!
The one downside was we
could not see a lot of the work the guitarists were doing, because of too
much smoke!! Maybe it was a big con, and there were tapes playing??!!
Talking to a few of the
lads later they said they are looking to only play twice a month, due to
family and work commitments. This is a shame, because I think more people
would like to hear such a diverse mix instead of one long guitar solo
after another.
Take my advice -
landlords book them while you can, and punters get yourselves along.
Support local venues and local bands.

Can
we just say thanks to everybody at The Lord Nelson in Stockton for a great
night last Friday (12th Jan) We
were made to feel very welcome, and got a great reception from a lively
and enthusiastic crowd of locals and Germans(!?) We were complimented by staff and punters alike on our
interesting and refreshing mix - it made the effort in rehearsal and on
the road worth it. A top venue - to be recommended, and we all hope
to be back there soon. If anybody in the area has any doubts get along
there and support their policy of promoting local bands in a great
atmosphere.
Many Thanks
Richie on behalf
of The Fibbers.

The
Fibbers
would like to pass on Seasons Greetings to Riffs, all the places we
have played, and the ones we are due to play in 2007. Great work on the
site, and thanks for supporting us as we were getting started. Thanks also
for so many people saying how much they enjoyed the shows.
All the best
Richie, Steve, Stu,
Daryn and Ian Fibber

Hi
Guys,
Just like to say what a
great time the-fibbers had at Hogans Bar in Bishop last night at the Hogans
Fancy Dress Christmas bash. I'm told the bar has regular entertainment
but only just started the band scene again. Although the audience were a
bit reluctant to get out of their seats they were beaten into submission
by the start of the second set, Air Guitar’s and all. Thanks to “Lou
&Andy” for Andy’s impromptu drum solo during the break and joining
the-fibbers for a rendition of Angels, (good job done mate). Thanks to
Bunny Girl for just lookin good and Cow Girl for careful and selective
use of the BullWhip. Thanks also to Laughlan for getting us the short
notice gig.
Something for everyone
and a promising start to Hogan’s Bar Christmas Festivities.
Hope to see you all in
the New Year and keep up with the Band scene thing. People need and
deserve it.

Hi
Nige
just a few lines, caught Damage
Control at the Grand in Bishop last friday, forget asking santa for a
new stereo/guitar/wife etc . Tell him you want to go see DC !! awesome is
an understatement ! A packed house lapped up some classic toons . Sunday i
turned out to support the charity bash at my local Mill House Crook, Never
heard of the Fibbers before so i took a quick look at their website
the set list was eclectic for want of a better word, after a couple of mic
gremlins & a nervous start they where soon in to their stride,
considering this was only their 3rd gig they put in a stirling
performance! Something for everyone in the set , the singers a `big` lad
& he let rip with a voice to match on some of the songs . Well done to
them, really enjoyed their version of Robbie Williams` Angels but
shhhhh best not mention that on here !
cheers Chris

Hi
Guys,
Just wanted to thank everyone who turned up to support
"The Clarke Lister Brain Haemorrage Foundation" Charity bash at
the Mill House on Sunday. "The Fibbers" had a great time
entertaining the enthusiastic and appreciative audience. Thanks to Maggie
and the Team at The Mill for letting it happen, for "Rent a
crowd" who just seem to keep turning up where ever we are and the
local lads & lasses for digging deep into their pockets for this
worthy cause.
Hope to do it again soon.
